Synap User groups and permissions info Notes

  • Users that are created on the sub-portal are now segregated from the root.

If you go to the Educators group you need to invite them rather than using “Add existing users” as previously they could be seen if they also existed as a user from the root level.

  • Students are different - they can be seen from the add existing users option.

  • Content should be assigned to a group.

  • Taking the Educators system group (one with padlock) this is the Global group and the permissions applied to this will apply to ALL educators across ALL groups.

Therefore do not amend these permissions - they should ideally remain off as per

  • Innovate Educator group - if you allow the library content View permission they will see the content at the root level too. If you wanted to remove this access then you would need to assign this group the Special Permissions to view.

  • Points to note the core Educator Group (with padlock) acts in effect as Administrators, if they wanted they could then create smaller sub groups of educators though this can make it harder to manage. Instead you can amend the permissions and grant the users specific access.

  • Aidan's suggestion was to get rid of the Innovate Compliance group and create them all as users under Educators, also will help if they have permissions in one and not the other group there can be issues accessing data that they think they should have.
